Dr. Mary Newport, devastated after medical attempts failed her dwindling dysfunction from Alzheimer’s, came across coconut oil and prevented him from being put away in special home. This story went viral on the Internet and it also led to a bestseller: Alzheimer’s Disease: What if There Was a Cure?
This story started an international movement of people with early dementia, trying to help themselves or their family members suffering from Alzheimer`s. Consequently, all of the Internet coverage created numerous reports and testimonial videos. Unfortunately, most of these reports weren’t acknowledged by mainstream medicine, which doesn’t recognize coconut oil as an effective treatment for Alzheimer`s.
COCONUT OIL: NON-ALTERNATIVE DRUG TREATMENT AGAINST ALZHEIMER´S DISEASE (published December 1, 2015 by Nutricion Hospitalaria)
The study was done in Spain, which tells a lot about the reason this study was done in the first place. Namely, Spain and other EU nations are less restricted when it comes to the material they can study without drugs. For instance, Spain has done an extensive research on cannabis and its medical uses.
This particular study involved Alzheimer`s patients of different genders and ages, with or without diabetes to see whether coconut oil had any impact on reducing their Alzheimer`s dysfunction.
The intervention group was given 40 ml of coconut oil a day, which translates to 2.7 tablespoons. Experts recommend three tablespoons or more daily, depending on the severity of the disease and the coconut oil tolerance.
As noted by the researchers, there was “a statistically significant increase in test score … and therefore an improvement in cognitive status, improving especially women’s, those without diabetes mellitus type II, and severe patients.”
Therefore, the team of researchers concluded this study, although preliminary, demonstrated the positive influence of coconut oil at the cognitive level of patients with Alzheimer’s, this improvement being dependent on sex, presence or absence of diabetes and degree of dementia.”
There is yet another study supporting the beneficial effects of coconut oil for Alzheimer`s disease. It was started in 2013 at the University of South Florida’s Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute, located in Tampa, Florida and is expected to be published in 2016.
The Fallacy of No and Low Fat Dieting
Clean saturated fats like coconut oil are of utmost importance for brain health and contrary to popular belief; their consumption is not associated with heart disease or obesity.
The famous Ancel Keys Seven Countries Study, which was accepted by both the mainstream medicine and the media, gave Crisco the green light to replace coconut oil and butter with unhealthy processed hydrogenated oils.
It has been found that hydrogenated and semi-hydrogenated oils are the source of heart disease, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. The consumption of refined carbohydrates and high sugar, particularly high fructose corn syrup, has added to the rise of obesity and heart-related problems.
Pharmaceutical Failures for Alzheimer’s
Alzheimer`s is considered ‘untreatable’ mostly due to the fact that Big Pharma hasn’t created anything successful so far. Given that it has nothing to offer but adverse side effects, Big Pharma keeps making mistake after mistake. A study done not long ago has found that people with high cholesterol live well up to 80s. Knowing this fact, Big Pharma offers statin drugs to reduce cholesterol levels and thus create additional problems.
Coconut Oil for Alzheimer’s Prevention and Reversal
From Dr. Stephanie Steneff: “The brain represents only 2% of the body’s total mass, but contains 25% of the total cholesterol. Cholesterol is required everywhere in the brain as an antioxidant, an electrical insulator (in order to prevent ion leakage), as a structural scaffold for the neural network, and a functional component of all membranes. Cholesterol is also utilized in the wrapping and synaptic delivery of the neurotransmitters. It also plays an important role in the formation and functioning of synapses in the brain.”
Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides, also known as MCTs. Unlike LCTs, they are easily digested and turned into ketones which can be used as energy source.
Much of LCTs or LCFAs end up stored as fat. Brain cells find it difficult to use insulin for glucose and thus large sections of the brain became useless as result of lack of energy.
The cellular inability to process insulin is the main reason why Alzheimer`s is considered diabetes 3. The solution for this condition lies in liver`s processing coconut oil MCTs. Ketones supply the brain cells with what they need, while improving blood circulation in the brain.
Given that ketones go easily, the person needs to maintain healthy diet of coconut oil by taking three or more tablespoons daily to keep the cells supplied with sufficient energy. The building blocks of brain material consist of cholesterol. Coconut oil provides cholesterol as the ketones provide brain energy. Simply put, coconut oil promotes better brain structure and optimal energy capacity.
